Top 5 Smartphones with Pop-up Cameras and Sliders in 2018

In a bid to become as close to a full-screen display as likely,Apple assumed the infamous notch on the iPhone X which housed the front facing camera and Face ID sensors. Taking note from Apple’s design choice, a number of Android producers also jumped on the notch bandwagon, adding notches of dissimilar shapes and sizes to their devices in order to get a closely bezel-less display. Not being a enormous fan of the notch, I was willing to see some Android manufacturers come out with creative solutions to house the front facing camera, earpiece and sensors to attain a completely bezel-less display. The race to achieve a completely bezel-less display familiarized a new breed of smartphones with pop-up cameras and brought back the slider design of yesteryear. Here, we’ll be taking a appearance at the best phones with pop-up cameras and sliders that were released in 2018:

Smartphones with Pop-up Cameras and Sliders

Price: Rs. 44,990

1. Oppo Find X

In a bid to one-up Vivo’s pop-up camera module on the VivoNEX, Chinese smartphone giant Oppo launched the Oppo Find X – a smartphone inwhich together the forward-facing and rear camera modules are exposed by amotorized pop-up mechanism. Thanks to the mechanism, the smartphone features analmost bezel-less design with a smooth curved glass build, with all its sensorshidden on the slide-out tray. Unlike the Vivo NEX, the Oppo Find X alsofeatures a facial gratitude feature for face unlock abilities which also triggersthe motorized slider as soon as the device is turned on.

The Oppo Find X, though, doesn’t feature an in-display fingerprint scanner like the Vivo NEX. In fact, it doesn’t feature a fingerprint sensor at all, relying totally on its face unlock feature for biometric security. Since the Oppo Find X packs in a greater motorized section, it doesn’t feel as solid as the Vivo NEX, but the mechanism does look a bit more premium and well thought out. On top of that, the fact that the slider opens up each time you try to unlock the device raises some concern regarding the toughness and longevity of the smartphone.

Oppo Find X specifications: Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM, up to 512GB storing, 6.42-inch AMOLED display, 16MP+20MP primary double camera arrangement, 25MP selfie shooter, 3,730mAh battery, ColorOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo

Price: Starts at Rs. 59,990

2. Vivo NEX

Let’s kick off the list with the smartphone that is, in part, accountable for making pop-up cameras a trend, the Vivo NEX. A flagship device from Chinese smartphone producer Vivo, the Vivo NEX took the bezel-less concept to a entire new level by ditching the notch for a pop-up mechanism that housed the front facing camera. The pop-up camera element on the Vivo NEX has been intended to pop-up on its own as soon as you change to the front facing camera and it hides back confidential the top edge of the device when the forward-facing camera is closed.

Since there isn’t any apartment for the front facing sensors on the pop-up module, vivo gracefully tucked them within the minimal top bezel, while assuming a piezo-electric sound system to replace the earpiece. For the price, the Vivo NEX brought a number of advanced features to the market, making it a compelling option for those who were watching for a flagship device with a bezel-less display and no notch. It even housed an in-display fingerprint sensor, a skill that has now become a bit more normal with the launch of the OnePlus 6T.

Vivo NEX specifications: Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, 6.59-inch Super AMOLED display, 12MP+5MP primary dual camera arrangement, 8MP pop-up selfie shooter, 4,000mAh battery, Funtouch OS based on Android 8.1 Oreo

3. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

Compared to the Vivo NEX and the Oppo Find X, both of which rely on motorized pop-up designs, Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 resurrects the manual slider mechanism that was all the rage back in the day and does a countless job of it.The smartphone’s slider mechanism gracefully hides the front facing camera and sensors behind the big bezel-less display and it feels stronger and more satisfying to use than the aforesaid smartphones. For the earphone, the Mi Mix3 has a very ingenious solution – a simple cutout that lets the sound permit through from the actual earpiece filled within the sliding mechanism.

The device also doesn’t comprise an in-display fingerprint scanner, but gratefully retains a traditional capacitive fingerprint scanner which is placed on the back. Turning on the front-facing camera on the Mi Mix 3 is as modest as sliding the screen down which reveals the camera module and turns on the camera app. Being a fan of slider phones in the past,  for myself like Xiaomi’s design a whole lot more than the Vivo NEX and the Oppo Find X.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 specifications: Snapdragon 845, up to 10GB RAM, up to 256GB storing, 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display, 12MP+12MP primary double camera system, 24MP+2MP dual selfie shooter, 3,200mAh battery, MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie

Price: Starts at Rs. 41,216

4. Honor Magic 2

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has also released a slider smartphone of its own – the Honor Magic 2 – which features a sliding mechanism much like that of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Packing in flagship provisions, the Honor Magic 2 is also a excessive alternative if you’re in the market for a smartphone that is nearly all screen up front and doesn’t have an ugly notch.

The old school slider mechanism on the Honor Magic 2 tucks a striking triple camera arrangement behind the bezel-less display, along with the front facing sensors, the earpiece, and sensors for Honor’s 3D face gratitude technology for faster and more protected face unlock capabilities. Much like the Mi Mix 3, the Magic 2 also has a cut out for the earpiece right above the display, but the device doesn’t mechanically open up the front facing camera upon opening the slider.

Honor Magic 2 specifications: Kirin 980, up to 8GB RAM, up to 256GB storing, 6.39-inch AMOLED display, 16MP+16MP+24MP primary triple camera arrangement, 16MP+2MP+2MP triple selfie shooter, 3,500mAh battery, EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie

Price: Rs. 62,236

5. Lenovo Z5 Pro

The latest adding to the slider party, Lenovo’s Z5 Pro, is a bezel-less mid-ranger which aims to make the advanced sliding mechanism more available to a larger number of buyers. Much like the Mi Mix 3 and the Honor Magic 2, the Lenovo Z5 has a smooth sliding mechanism which hides the front facing camera and sensors behind the big display. The earpiece on the device is also located on the slider mechanism, with no noticeable cut out up front, so we can’t be sure if that will have an effect on the audio superiority.

The device also packs in an in-display fingerprint scanner which, the company claims, can unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds, making it slightly quicker than the fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 6T which can unlock the device in 0.34 seconds. The Lenovo Z5, however, has a obvious chin at the lowest of the display, something which isn’t found on wither the Honor Magic 2 or the Mi Mix 3, but seeing the device’s price point, I believe that’s something most buyers would overlook.

Lenovo Z5 Pro specifications: Snapdragon 710, 6GB RAM, up to 128GB storing, 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display, 16MP+24MP primary dual camera arrangement, 16MP+8MP dual selfie shooter, 3,350mAh battery, ZUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo

Price: Starts at 1,998 Yuan (~Rs. 20,400)

Best Phones with Pop-up Cameras and Sliders in 2018

Well, that rounds up our list of the top phones with pop-up cameras and sliders that were released this year. Other than the aforementioned options, there are a pair of smartphones from relatively obscure Chinese brands that have also accepted a pop-up or slider design. The Elephone U2, Elephone U2 Pro, the Elephone PX and the Doogee Mix 4 (concept) are some notable choices that you can take a glance at, but don’t imagine anything spectacular from these phones.

OnePlus Top Smartphone Premium Segment in India For Second Straight Quarter

Chinese smartphone manufacturer, OnePlus, topped the premium smartphone section in India for the second successive quarter during Q3, 2018 after first developing as the market leader during the previous quarter.

According to IDC, the company accounted for a 37 percent share in the premium section during the three months from July-Sept, riding mainly on the acceptance of the OnePlus 6. OnePlus was followed by Apple (30 percent) and Samsung (26 percent) at numbers two and three correspondingly. IDC defines ‘premium’ smartphones as devices priced overhead $500 (around Rs. 37,000).

The report further states that OnePlus clocked its highest ever quarterly consignments in the $400+ segment during Q3, pushing the overall smartphone ASP (average selling price) in the online space to $166 in 3Q18 from $156 in 3Q17.

It’s worth noticing that Counterpoint had also out a similar report last month, crediting OnePlus with surrounding 30 percent of the market in the Rs. 30,000+ segment during Q3 ahead of Samsung and Apple, which derived in at numbers two and three with 28 percent and 25 percent individually.

OnePlus 6 has been superseded by the OnePlus 6T that comes with a number of developments over its predecessor, counting an in-display fingerprint scanner and a minimal teardrop notch that houses the selfie camera. Starting at Rs. 37,999, the 6T is a bit steeper than the previous smartphone but is supposed to have well-received by customers, with people said to be clamoring to get their hands on the device.

OnePlus has also since launched a ‘Thunder Purple Edition ‘that will be obtainable for purchase starting tomorrow, November 16, on a number of online and offline retail outlets, counting Amazon, Oneplus.in, Croma, Reliance Digital and all OnePlus exclusive brick-and-mortar stores.

Huawei 2019 Straightgy ,Four Cameras,Foldable Smartphone and more..

Although it started off on the mistaken foot, 2018 has astonishingly remained good to Huawei. It now has two rock-solid flagships smartphones that top the charts in cameras. It has accomplished to dethrone Apple as the second biggest smartphone company in the world. And all of that without having the US market in its (official) list of customers. Perhaps encouraged by that achievement, the Chinese OEM has big tactics for 2019. And, not amazingly, some of those might not include the US at all.

It may not have been primary to the dual camera race (HTC deserves that title) but Huawei can maybe credit for making triple cameras a thing. Samsung, however, one-upped it with the market’s first multiple cameras on the Galaxy A9 (2018) but Huawei is unfazed. It is confident it can do one well, focusing on improving optical zoom, perhaps by as much as 10x. After all, it’s not pointing for mid-range phones as Samsung did.

In fact, Huawei isn’t attentive in entry-level phones at all, or at least that’s what Walter Ji, Huawei’s president for western Europe, revealed to Android PIT. It’s not good for the brand, he says, even though that brand does have fairly a few mid-range phones in Asia. That’s actually no problem since its sub-brand Honor has absolutely cornered that market tier well. As an aside, Ji also confides that Huawei has no plans on making Android One phones. No amazement there really, specified how much emphasis the company puts on its modified EMUI experience.

That does leave Huawei free to discover higher tier potentials, like a foldable phone. It’s no secret that Huawei is planning to put out one next year, but it has to really show it even has a working prototype. Samsung and Lenovo have exposed their hand. The market still awaits LG’s and Huawei’s.

Indirectly connected to smartphones, Huawei is also working companies and carriers in assertive 5G technology forward. That’s really a thorny subject for Huawei because it is facing not just antagonism but actual bans from contributing to 5G expansion in some countries. All for the same claims of state-sanctioned espionage. But while it is being shoved out of the US market, Huawei is turning its eyes on Europe in its place. It recently opened up its first European flagship store in Milan and understood just how inadequate that is. It plans to open ten to twenty other flagships across the region to make sure it leaves a permanent impression in that market.

Samsung Galaxy F series could be first foldable phone

FlexPaiThere’s no ending the coming of foldable phones, whether you like it or not and whether they make logic or not. Even previously Samsung has its turn next week, a Chinese company previously called dibs on the first foldable phone. That said, that’s not going to be a problem for the Korean manufacturer if details of this supposed Galaxy F series of foldable phones are certainly what they claim to be.

The name and trademark for Galaxy F came up fairly a while ago and considering the “F” letter, it was immediately associated with a foldable phone. Of course, it could also be for approximately else, given how Samsung’s naming schemes don’t continuously make sense. Samsung supposedly still has a gaming phone in the works, so that’s also a possibility.

SamMobile’s data seems to go additional in the way of a foldable phone series though. It was able to get model numbers SM-F900U, SM-F900N, and SM-F900F which could hint at a lot of things. For one, the suffixes could mean that it’s going to be obtainable internationally as well.

The “900” part of the model number also proposes that this will be part of Samsung’s high-end 2018 line-up. The Galaxy S9 is the SM-G960 while the Galaxy Note 9 is the SM-N960. This first Galaxy F smartphone is predictable to have 512 GB of storage and, possibly only in some markets, have dual SIM support. That also advises the phone will cost quite a lot, which shouldn’t be surprising.

A precise firmware, with version number F900USQU0ARJ5, is reportedly being tested in the US and is suggested to have been established mostly in the country as well. This would give credence to earlier reports of Samsung working closely with Google to develop a custom version of Android precisely for this unconventional Android device.

The appearance of the Royale FlexiPai has absolutely drummed up the hype even higher for foldable phones. And it’s not just Samsung either. Aside from Huawei and Lenovo, LG is also said to be playing that game as well with a foldable phone to reveal at CES 2019 in two months.

OnePlus 6T has now received its first update, a day after launch

oneplus-6t-review-10-2-640x640

The OnePlus 6T was now launched this week, bringing several improvements over the OnePlus 6. The Chinese brand isn’t wasting any time though, as it rapidly pushed out a system update yesterday.
For one, the update improves the camera app’s Nightscape mode, while also adding a “studio lighting” option (presumably for portrait mode).

Other notable tweaks contain improved Screen Unlock (OnePlus’s term for in-display fingerprint scanning), better standby power consumption, and general bug fixes and developments. The update also integrates the November 2018 security patch, giving users a little extra peace of mind.

The changelog also mentions “brand new navigation gestures” but, as XDA notes, it might be an error as the phone previously has these new gestures.

The OnePlus 6T packs a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storing. The phone available from the OnePlus 6 by offering a tiny notch, a bigger, 3,700mAh battery, and an in-display fingerprint sensor. There is one downgrade, however, as the new phone absences a headphone jack.

OnePlus’s new phone is also a milestone device for the company, as it’s partnered with T-Mobile in the U.S. to sell the phone. The two companies held a pop-up event in Times Square to mark the occasion

They are also hoping that there are “super fans” out in Ireland that will need to work in the launch event. You get to be part of the Xiaomi experience zone and in conversation, you’ll get free goodies. They didn’t specify what those goodies are but they improved be good sufficient because they’re basically getting these people to do client service for free. If anyone reading this life in Ireland and is a Xiaomi fan, email RSVP@three.ie and use the subject line “I’m a Mi Fan because…”. They will be choosing 8 fans for this “experience.”

They will also be launching the Mi Fan club in Ireland where members will get to join exclusive events that will supposedly be held on an even basis. In relation to this, they have also recently proclaimed that they are opening a store in the UK by November 10. They also extended to Spain late last year and have plans of inaugural in France and Italy.

iPhone XR iFixit teardown gives expectation for DIY maintenances

apple-iphone-xr-hands-on-1-1-1 (2)

iFixit has published its teardown of the iPhone XR, Apple’s latest LCD iPhone model. The company has wrapped up its disassembly of the device, showing off apiece component and the boring process of taking the handset apart. Buyers doubting whether they’ll be talented to replace their own cracked display are in for some decent news: it’s not an impossible task.

It seems almost unavoidable that a phone screen will become cracked at some point, and getting one swapped has become an increasingly luxurious repair. The cost leads some handset owners to effort the repair on their own, but the rise of sealed rear panels, ample quantities of glue, and complex hardware have made the assignment very difficult.

iFixit, possibly the most popular teardown site, has followed up its iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max guide with its new iPhone XR teardown. The handset has established the same 6 out of 10 repairability score as its two siblings, giving purchasers hope that they’ll be talented to repair the device on their own (with a bit of skill).

The repair process is boring but not awfully difficult, as the video above shows. A bit of careful prying, screw elimination, and heat is all it takes to eliminate the back panel, after which point it becomes a slow process of eliminating screws and lifting out components. According to iFixit, DIYers can replace a broken display without having to remove a bunch of hardware and “with a little care” toward preservative Face ID.

iFixit notes some points of trouble, including the sustained use of Penta lobe and try-point screws, though it points out that these are still desirable over problematic adhesive. As well, the waterproofing elements add some difficulty to DIY repairs. The big downside, the teardown notes, is the use of crystal on the front and back; crack the rear glass and you’ll have to substitute the entire chassis.

Pokémon Go’s approaching Adventure Sync rewards walking with in-game bonuses

adventure-sync (2)

During its top, Pokemon GO has been credited for receiving people off their butts and on their feet and walking everywhere, sometimes even walking into things, unfortunately. But how much walking and movement did Pokemon GO actually produce. Unfortunately, there’s actually no way to get that past data and can only get it straight from tracking data from smartwatches or smartphones. To fix that, Niantic Labs introduce a new feature called Adventure Sync that records our steps, syncs with Apple and Android phones, and hatches eggs.

Adventure Sync is almost a pedometer-like feature that’s now made into the Pokemon GO app. You no longer have to deduction how much walking you’ve done because your Trainer Profile will show you how various kilometers you’ve walked. It even syncs with Apple Health and Google Fit so you don’t lose that valuable data.

But more than just a tracker, Adventure Sync has an even more significant purpose, at least for Pokemon GO players. It essentially works in the background even when Pokemon GO isn’t launched yet. That tally goes towards earning Candy and, more highly, Hatching Eggs. You’ll obtain a push notification when those actions happen so you can switch out your phone. Hopefully at a safe spot.

It may sound similar a small an unimportant new feature (unless you count your Eggs), but strategies like these are what made fitness trackers successful and slightly addictive. And just in time, too, because you’ll be talented to trade in all that Halloween candy calories for in-game Candies.

Samsung A6s coming out as the first ODM model

Samsung-Galaxy-A6s-Photos-696x319 (2)

The Samsung Galaxy A6s was supposed to be released this month composed with the Galaxy A9s. The A6s is the first ODM model. It’s the first phone from the South Korean tech massive that’s been licensed to be produced by another firm. We earlier thought the Galaxy A6s was the Galaxy P30 but we can now settle the name, specs, features, and smooth pricing. This one is special because it’s the first Samsung exclusive device that’s made by another company.

Samsung frequently manufactures its own phones. The choice to have an ODM is definitely for business. With this move, the company decreases some cost. We’re not sure what model will follow or when Samsung will roll out additional ODM product but we won’t be surprised if more budget, inexpensive, and mid-range smartphones will be completed by China-based Wintech.

The Samsung Galaxy A6s Android phone sports a big 6-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1080p+ resolution, a Snapdragon 660 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB or 128GB onboard storing, dual 12MP and 2MP cameras, 12MP selfie shooter, USB-C, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3300mAh battery. Battery life is dressed sufficient but the cameras are underwhelming associated to the Galaxy A6+’s 24MP front-facing shooter and dual 16MP + 5MP rear cameras.

Samsung’s new Galaxy A6+ costs CNY 1,799 for the 64GB model. That’s about $259 in the US or €230 in Europe. The 128GB variant is priced CNY 2199 ($316).
